Chapter 2
What is The Dark Night of the Soul?
What is THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL?

The Dark Night does NOT happen to everyone, and by no means is it a prerequisite to awakening to your life purpose.
But for many — especially those seeking a deeper meaning to life — there is often a period of confusion, uncertainty, and general withdrawal that precedes the beginning stages of discovery of their mission.
This is totally normal, so even though it might FEEL like you’re totally alone if you’re going through it, I promise you aren’t!
This period is characterized for many by a depressive state where nothing seems to make sense anymore.
The dark night of the soul is a spiritual depression, a kind of existential crisis, that requires a deep and painful dip that must be experienced before enlightenment.
Sometimes it’s triggered by specific life-altering events that rattle us awake such as breakups, the loss of a loved one, or some unanticipated illness.
Things start losing meaning, anxiety begins setting in, and we start getting worried that we might never find something that lights a fire in our hearts. For many, this phase of uncertainty is a painful but necessary precursor to emergence.
This is the Dark Night of the Soul — it’s simply a shedding of that which no longer serves as the soul tries to encourage you to step into your true purpose.
Even though it feels heavy and dark, it WILL NOT last forever!
What’s really going on during this difficult period?
The 5 D’s are caving in on you so that the 5 P’s can emerge:

Well, What’s My Purpose?
And yes, we ALL have a “life purpose.” It’s probably not what you think, but we’ll get to that later.
Life purpose. What does that really mean?
Your purpose emanates from your being level. Your life purpose will never be found through “doing” but it will be expressed through doing, and, once unearthed and committed to consciously, it will underlie everything that you do.
You can only be in your purpose, not do it.
We all have a purpose… no one is just here randomly without a grander task.
But, your purpose may not always be obvious. In fact, you often have to go through years of mini missions, experimentation, and experience to unearth your true purpose.
As you begin to pierce the veil and reach deeper, start to think about those times when you’re most connected to your heart center, where local you is allowed to serve as a channel through which universal consciousness may work its healing magic.
Where can you most effectively bring love through creative expression, and make your mark within the realm of the physical?
Your purpose will be found once you connect to the formless, timeless dimension within — when you find whatever takes you OUT of time, where nothing else matters and you are immersed in what you both love and are also good at.
The antidote to loneliness, depression, sadness, anger, frustration, confusion or any other negative feelings will be found when you can effectively take yourself out of TIME and SPACE, immersed in purposeful, service-based being — creating value for others!
That’s what the rest of this guide dives DEEPLY into.
