You Are the Average of What You Do Most Consistently: Detach From Perfection

No single week in the gym, meal, or unproductive couple days will affect or define you long-term.

“No days off” and pushing to “live as your higher self” 24/7 are also dangerous paradigms to hold. These proclamations just set the stage for unreasonably high expectations and will inevitably result in subsequent letdown when the perception of perfection is breached.

In actuality, we are the sum total, or average, of what we think, believe, and do most often, over time.

I should know… I’ve been placing incredibly high standards on myself for years… to be, think, believe, say, produce, to appear, to create, and to live as this ever-mutating idealized version of who my ego wanted me to be.

But this mentality is ultimately VERY unhealthy and self defeating. Why? Because it’s time-bound, and the ego can only operate in time — but the soul does not.

Aim to polish, not to perfect. The pursuit of perfection is time-bound, yet it can never actually be attained because it doesn’t exist.

Michael

I essentially just took a year off from the gym to focus entirely on healing my body from a debilitating nerve dis-ease and to build my life coaching business. The ego hasn’t liked that much but the soul knows I’m in alignment. And honestly, I look the exact same today as I did a year ago (even if I don’t feel it just yet).

During the process of waking up, the ego will not disappear; it remains in-tact so long as we remain human. As such, and as you awaken, it will adjust its agenda and begin to compare to others (especially on social media). It also begins to seek perfection. Understand, though: The soul seeks REFINEMENT and EXPANSION, not perfection. With awareness, you can feel the difference.

While growth and continuous improvement is healthy, chasing the ego’s need for validation is defeatist.

Releasing pressure to be the pinnacle of perfection means allowing and accepting exactly who we’ve invented ourselves to be overall — taking a birds-eye approach, not a fleeting one.

So, here’s your permission to do that. To not need to do it all.

To your ego’s illusory imagining of you should be: you are loved.

To you, you are love.
